One of the more sought after gymnastic skills in CrossFit is the single leg squat aka “pistol” squat. A great degree of flexibility and balance are required to master this skill. One of the many ways to force this movement is with an external load. Not the typical rule of thumb when proper progressions are concerned, but in this instance, the extension of the arms bearing the plate serves as a counter-balance to offset lack of flexibility in the posterior chain and the ankles.
