If your not familiar with this method of eastern medicine, it may look like I have been attacked by an octopus. But in actuality, I just revisited one of my favorite methods of localized recovery. This is known as cupping.

If it looks familiar, it maybe because you saw these same marks on this man below.

Cupping has been used in Chinese medicine as a way to remove toxins from the body, recirculate blood, and decrease muscle soreness. The process entails specialty cups being placed on the body using heat to induce suction and during this process the skin gives off a bruised mark as a result the ruptured capillaries under the skin.

It’s said that it only works best when coupled with acupuncture and only good for certain conditions that are not even muscle recovery related.

The verdict is still out on the efficacy of this method but some athletes and collegiate level teams seem to trust the method and garner some results from it. As for me, I have used it in the past and have continued to gain some measurable progress from it.
